Leicester has become the UK’s first local lockdown after the city was found to account for 10% of all positive cases in the country over the past week. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said non-essential shops will shut on Tuesday, and schools will close for most pupils on Thursday, with the loosening of restrictions for pubs and restaurants on Saturday also unable to go ahead.

LinkedIn members in Leicester have spoken of their disappointment at the measures, which will be reviewed in two weeks.
