Schools to drop 'non-core' subjects

Secondary school children in England may miss out on some non-core subjects when they return in September, according to draft government plans. Educators may teach a slimmed-down curriculum to focus on maths and English, with the full syllabus not reappearing until 2021.

The government is due to unveil guidelines later this week for the full reopening of schools in the autumn, including compulsory attendance and the threat of a fine if parents in England do not send their children back to school.
