Businesses prepare for Super Saturday - B-AIM PICK SELECTS

Businesses across the country are preparing for ‘Super Saturday’ as 4 July signals the end of England’s “long national hibernation”. Patrons are expected to spend £210m this weekend when pubs, bars and restaurants — which have been closed since March to slow the spread of Covid-19 — are allowed to reopen, and lockdown rules ease on holidaying within the UK.

Here’s what you can do from 4 July:

  • You can visit a restaurant, pub, or bar — keeping a two-metre distance between customers or a one-metre distance with additional protection such as a mask.

  • Members of two different households are permitted to gather indoors — remaining socially distanced from anybody you do not live with.

  • Funfairs, theme parks, bingo halls, cinemas, libraries, community centres and places of worship join non-essential shops in being allowed to reopen.

  • Hairdressers will open, although beauty salons remain shut.

  • Theatres will reopen but will host only old productions or other cultural events, not live performances.

  • While day trips are already allowed, from Saturday you are permitted to take holidays within the UK, travelling only with members of one other household and maintaining distance from those you do not normally live with.

Pubs are gearing up for "Super Saturday" — the great reopening. But as with every other industry, things can be measured in pre- and post-COVID terms. UK pub chain stocks rallied in anticipation of the reopening of the sector on 4 July, but consumers will determine for themselves when it’s safe to have a post-lockdown pint at the pub. Jharonne Martis, Director of Consumer Research at Refinitiv.

From this Saturday in England, you will be able to stay the night away from your home in a group of up to two households (your support bubble counts as a household).
